Shia cleric Sayyid Alim Musawi of Imambargah Safdar Hussain, was gunned down by unknown attackers in Dhaki Munawar Shah area on Monday.
Sources said that the Shia cleric was on his way to the local mosque for evening prayer when he was targeted by unknown assailants riding on bikes.
Sayyid Alim Musawai was a close aide of Shaheed Arif Al-Hussaini, a senior Shia cleric killed in the 1980’s.
He sustained two bullets and was rushed to Lady Reading Hospital for emergency medical treatment but he succumbed to injuries on the way.
Soon after the incident, a heavy contingent of police rushed to the site and cordoned off the area.
They also launched a search operation in the area but no arrests were made.
MWM strongly condemned the target killing of the cleric and demanded the government arrest the perpetrators as soon as possible.
