A grieving Luton family have appealed to the British ambassador in Islamabad for help in bringing their father’s killer to justice.
Mahmood Hussain Shah, 62, of Claremont Road was shot in the back on March 10 as he went out for a pint of milk in the village of Dhamali Syedan, where he was looking after his aged father, Mehram Shah. He died of his injuries four days later.
His daughter Nagina, 35, a project worker at Mary Seacole Housing Association, said: “We are demanding the death penalty.
“My father named his killer before he died. It is the same man who brutally beat him in the mosque 18 months ago, leaving him for dead. He lived next door and they are related.”
“It was a cowardly attack on an innocent man who was loved by everyone in the community.”
She said there was no reason for the slaying and she now fears for the safety of the rest of the family who went to Pakistan in the wake of the murder.
Mr Shah, a retired taxi driver, had eight children and 35 grandchildren. He had lived in Luton for more than 40 years but went back to Pakistan every year to help care for his elderly parents. His mother died some time ago.
Nagina said although a man had been arrested, they did not believe he would be charged.
“No action was taken the last time,” she said. “It looks like the authorities were bribed.
“We will be contacting our MP Gavin Shuker to pursue the matter through the British Embassy.”
She added: “To know your father has been murdered for no reason is devastating.
“We want justice so he can rest in peace and so can we.”
