Hujjat al-Islam Muhammad Shahabi, the head of Imam Muhammad Baqir (a), Bahrain, spoke about the relentless attack of the Bahraini regime upon the Shia.
He stated: “An attack on religious freedom and the lack of punishment for these criminals continues and from the other side the regime is using the media as a tool of provocation. These steps show that the regime is not after looking for a true and political solution to the crisis.”
The Hujjat al-Islam explained the extent the regime has gone in its methods to introduce the Shia as the enemy. He said: “At the moment it has reached a point where the sanctity of the Shia is no longer protected. They desecrate the sanctity of the families by increasing their accusations against us of being terrorists, Safavids or traitors.”
“I can say that in this country the Shia are collectively being punished and their religion and creed is being defamed.”
Regarding statements made about highly respected Shia authorities, the respected scholar explained: “Today the identity and the religion of our nation are being threatened. We have been witness to insults being hurled at our respected personalities and it has reached a stage that even some officials have openly abused highly respected and noble personalities of the Shia and declared them as disbelievers.”
Hujjat al-Islam Shaikh Muhammad Shahabi finished by emphasising the apathy and lack of action shown by the United Nation towards the Bahraini Regime that has flagrantly gone against the institution which is supposed to look out for injustices being committed around the world.
He concluded: “The lack of response from the regime towards the request of the United Nations to visit goes against official guidelines and shows that the direction the regime of Bahrain is taking is against the United Nations. This regime makes use of such defamation, violations of the rights of the Shia as a tool to pressurize their opposition further.”
