Monument for Shaheed Muhammad Baqir Al-Sadr unveiled in Moscow

An unveiling of an honorary monument for the great Iraqi scholar and philosopher, Ayatollah Shaheed Muhammad Baqir Al-Sadr, took place at the Moscow State University of International Relations, on Friday 28th February 2014.

The Iraqi Cultural Attache to Russia, Mr. Fouad Serei said in attendance were a number of distinguished Russian cultural figures, academics and politicians; in addition to heads of diplomatic missions from Lebanon, Palestine, the Arab League and representatives from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

It was mentioned that preparations for this event have been underway for months in order to recognize the achievements and legacy of this great scholar.

Muhammad Baqir Al-Sadr was a high ranking Shia scholar, philosopher and ideological founder of the Islamic Dawa Party, born in Al-Kadhimiya, Iraq. His lineage goes back to the Prophet Muhammad (saw) through Imam Musa Al-Kadhim (as).

He was executed in 1980 by the Ba’athist regime of Saddam Hussein.
