A prominent Kuwaiti political expert has denounced attempts by a number of Arab states to establish full diplomatic relations with Israel, describing normalization of ties with the Tel Aviv regime as a form of “neocolonialism.”

Dr. Abdullah al-Nefisi, in a post published on his Twitter page, said signing of normalization agreements between Israel and Arab states will turn the latter into new colonies.

“Normalization of relations with the Israeli regime amounts to neocolonialism, and will turn us into colonies that serve the common interests of the Zionists and the Americans,” Nefisi wrote in his tweet.

On October 4, Kuwait’s new emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al Sabah reiterated the kingdom’s unswerving support for the Palestinian nation and their struggle for the liberation of their land occupied by the Israeli regime.

During a meeting with visiting Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, Sheikh Nawaf said Kuwait would continue to follow in the footsteps of the late Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber Al Sabah, and will offer solid support to Palestine and its people.

Shtayyeh and other senior officials from the Palestinian Authority had arrived in Kuwait to offer condolences over the demise of Sheikh Sabah.

Earlier, the 83-year-old Kuwaiti monarch stressed in a telephone conversation with the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement, Ismail Haniyeh, on October 1 that the kingdom will not alter its policies toward Palestinians and will remain committed to the Palestinian cause.

Anti-Israel sentiment runs high in Kuwait. A poll conducted last year by the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, an American think tank, showed that 85 percent of Kuwaitis oppose normalizing ties with Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signed agreements with Emirati Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani in a US-brokered event hosted by President Donald Trump at the White House on September 15.

Palestinians, who seek an independent state in the occupied West Bank and Gaza, with East Jerusalem al-Quds as its capital view the deals as betrayal of their cause.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas protested the normalization deals with Israel, saying they will be fruitless as long as the United States and the Israeli regime do not recognize the rights of the Palestinian nation and refuse to resolve the issue of Palestinian refugees.
