Scholars have always been at the forefront of the revolutionary movement in the Islamic Republic of Iran. From the struggle leading up to the revolution to the revolution itself, from the 8 year war to the struggles of society today, the scholars have been on the front lines as role models of self-sacrifice for the people to follow. Their presence was also seen during the revolution day demonstrations taking place throughout the country.
Taking part in the revolution day demonstrations in Qum was Ayatollah Nasir Makarem Shirazi and he expressed his view regarding the relation between Iran and America. “Today America is trapped in a very big mistake of their own doing. The lack of respect and insults has increased the distance between Iran and themselves. Today the enmity [towards America] of our people has deepened and they chant down with America with more passion than ever.”
Also taking part in the revolution day demonstrations was Ayatollah Noori Hamedani who stated:
“Today is the day to answer back to the great Satan, America, and today is the day to show your support to the system and leadership.”
This year the revolution day demonstrations took place during the process of negotiations between America and Iran.
Many Iranian people feel angered at the lack of respect shown by official American statespersons towards the Iranian nation and these feelings were evident in the demonstrations across the country.
