Remembrance of Allah, the Exalted, at the Time of Breaking the Fast in the Blessed Month of Ramadan.
It is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that whoever says this supplication at the time of breaking the fast will be freed from his sins as on the day his mother gave birth to him. It is:
“O Most Great, O Most Great, O Most Great, You are Allah; there is no god but You. Forgive me the great sin, for indeed none forgives the great sin except You, O Most Great.”
Then say what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) taught to ‘Ali (peace be upon him) to recite at the time of breaking the fast, which is:
“O Allah, Lord of the Mighty Light, Lord of the Exalted Throne, Lord of the Surging Sea, Lord of the Great Intercession, the Mighty Light, and Lord of the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, and the Great Furqan (the Qur’an). You are the God of those in the heavens and the God of those on the earth; there is no god in them besides You. You are the Compeller of those in the heavens and the Compeller of those on the earth; there is no compeller in them besides You. You are the King of those in the heavens and the King of those on the earth; there is no king in them besides You. I ask You by Your Great Name, by the Light of Your Noble Face, and by Your Eternal Sovereignty, O Ever-Living, O Self-Subsisting.”
(three times)
“And I ask You by Your Name by which everything is illuminated; I ask You by Your Name by which the heavens and the earth are illuminated; by Your Name by which the former generations were set aright and by which the later generations are set aright. O Living One before every living being, O Living One after every living being, O Living One—there is no god but You—send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad. Forgive my sins, grant me ease and a near relief in my affairs, and keep me firm upon the religion of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, upon the guidance of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and upon the Sunnah of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad—peace be upon him and upon them. Make my deeds among those that are elevated and accepted. Grant to me as You have granted to Your friends and the people of obedience. Indeed, I believe in You, rely upon You, and turn to You in repentance, and to You is my return. Gather for me, my family, and my children all goodness, and avert from me, my children, and my family all evil. You are the Most Compassionate, the Most Generous, Originator of the heavens and the earth. You give good to whom You will and withhold it from whom You will. So bestow upon me from Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.”
‘Ali (peace be upon him) would also say at the time of breaking his fast:
“In the Name of Allah. O Allah, for You we have fasted, and with Your provision we break our fast; so accept it from us. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”
And al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) would say at the time of breaking his fast:
“All praise is for Allah who helped us so we fasted, and provided for us so we broke our fast. O Allah, accept it from us, help us in it, keep us safe in it, and receive it from us with ease and well-being from You. All praise is for Allah who has enabled us to complete a day of the month of Ramadan.”
