Shaikh Taj al-Deen al-Helali, a scholar from al-Azhar University and the previous mufti in Australia, in a conversation with international journalist spoke about the foundations of the Islamic Revolution of Iran.

“Without a doubt the Islamic revolution of Iran, directed by Imam Khomeini, was based on Quranic principles and founded to tackle the arrogance of the east and the west. He was able to use values from the Quran to achieve numerous victories.”

The scholar from Egypt’s prestigious al-Azhar University recalled his feelings at meeting Imam Khomeini and praised his leadership: “When I was fortunate enough to meet Imam Khomeini in 1982, I saw all the conditions necessary for a leader of the Islamic nation present in him. Imam Khomeini was able to replace the guardianship of the ignorant with the guardianship of the scholars.”

Shaikh al-Helali spoke about the objectives of the Islamic revolution and stressed upon those goals which unite the Islamic nation.

“This revolution stresses upon Islamic unity, desires the dignity of Muslims and stresses upon the return of Palestine to them.”

He spoke about the role of the Islamic republic in the world and explained the stances of the enemies of the revolution: “Iran has now become a role model for the oppressed people of the world and in essence this is the real reason for the animosity of the arrogant powers against this country.”

The respected scholar continued: “If a day comes when the arrogant powers of this world are satisfied with us then that is the day when we should realize we are making mistakes… this is because we know for sure that any position like that would not be acceptable in the eyes of Allah or the Prophet (s).”

In conclusion, Shaikh al-Helali gave advice to Islamic nations who provide support to the arrogant powers. He stated: “Those Islamic countries which have allowed the establishment of American bases on their lands must re-evaluate their positions [on this matter].”
