Shia publisher and owner of a bookshop was arrested and detained for selling Nehjul Balaghah, a book of sermons and sayings of Imam Ali (A), in Lahore on Monday.
Police arrested Syed Mohammad Raza Shah, owner of Matkaba tur Reza from his Urdu Bazaar sales point. Police of Lahore had earlier registered a case against him on the complaint of banned Sipah-e-Sahaba’s fanatics.
The registration of the case and the arrest of an innocent Shiite publisher evoked instant reaction from Shia Muslims across Pakistan who warned they would come out on streets and would not return until the false case was withdrawn and Raza was released. They warned they would not tolerate sacrilege of infallible leader of Islam who the Sunni Muslims revere as fourth pious caliph and a major source of emulation.
Shia Muslims say that banned Sipah-e-Sahaba, renamed as ASWJ, conspired to turn Pakistan into another Afghanistan by their sectarian fanaticism, violent extremism and terrorism. They said that takfiri elements desecrated mosques and Imam Bargahs and also attacked temples and churches to express their hatred against Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
Shiites demand the federal government and provincial governments to order for no case on the instigation of banned Sipah-e-Sahaba/ASWJ and their allies against Shia Muslims, Sunni Bralevis and non-Muslims. They demand that those who have complained against Nehjul Balaghah, should be arrested for blasphemy and be punished under blasphemy laws.
