**The Forty Fatimid Hadiths – Ayman Abdulkarim**

O Allah, send blessings upon Fatimah, her father, her husband, her sons, and the secret entrusted within her.
Peace be upon you, O the Great Infallibility of Allah, Fatimah al‑Zahra (peace be upon her).

**14.** Fatimah (peace be upon her) said in her sermon:

“Allah has placed among you a covenant which He has presented to you, and a trust which He has left among you: the Book of Allah—clear in its insights, manifest in its inner meanings, evident in its proofs, whose recitation is ever heard among creation. Its followers are led to divine pleasure, and its adherents are guided to salvation.

Within it is the clarification of Allah’s radiant proofs, His prohibited matters, His recorded virtues, His sufficient commandments, His granted concessions, His written laws, and His clear evidences.

Thus He made faith a purification from polytheism; prayer a purification from arrogance; zakat an increase in provision; fasting a strengthening of sincerity; pilgrimage a reinforcement of the religion; justice a tranquility for hearts; obedience an order for the community; leadership (imamate) a safeguard against division; jihad an honor for Islam; patience a help in earning reward; enjoining good a benefit for the public; kindness to parents a protection from wrath; maintaining family ties a cause for growth in numbers; legal retribution a protection for blood; fulfilling vows a means to forgiveness; giving full measure and weight a prevention of fraud; avoiding false accusations against chaste women a shield from the curse; abstaining from theft a safeguard of chastity; avoiding the consumption of the property of orphans a protection from injustice; justice in judgments a reassurance for the people.

And Allah the Mighty and Exalted forbade associating partners with Him in order to ensure sincerity in His lordship. So fear Allah as He truly deserves to be feared in what He has commanded you, and refrain from what He has forbidden you.”

**15.** Our Lady al‑Zahra (peace be upon her) said:
“A cheerful face shown to a believer earns its owner Paradise, and a cheerful face shown to a stubborn enemy protects its owner from the punishment of the Fire.”

**16.** Our Lady al‑Zahra (peace be upon her) said:
“What benefit is there in a person’s fasting if he does not guard his tongue, his hearing, his sight, and his limbs?”

**17.** Our Lady al‑Zahra (peace be upon her) said:

“At the dining table there are twelve etiquettes that every Muslim should know: four are obligatory, four are recommended (sunnah), and four are manners.

The obligatory are: recognition (of Allah’s blessing), contentment, saying ‘Bismillah,’ and gratitude.

The recommended are: performing ablution before eating, sitting on the left side, eating with three fingers, and licking the fingers afterward.

The manners are: eating from what is in front of you, making small bites, chewing well, and not staring much at the faces of people.”

It is also narrated that one morning Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) said:
“O Fatimah, do you have anything to feed me for breakfast?”

She replied:
“No, by the One who honored my father with prophethood and honored you with guardianship, this morning I have nothing at home. For the past two days we have had nothing to eat except something I preferred to give to you rather than myself or these two sons of mine—Hasan and Husayn (peace be upon them).”

Ali (peace be upon him) said:
“O Fatimah, why did you not tell me so that I could have sought something for you?”

She replied:
“O Abu al‑Hasan, I feel shy before my Lord to burden you with something you are unable to provide.”
