25 Ways to Connect Your Child to the Quran

11- Connect it to specialized resources in the Quran and its sciences
(Specialized Quran channels, tapes, discs, radio, etc.)
This idea stimulates the desire for imitation and competition in reading and memorization, especially if the reciters and participants are of the same age and gender. Instill in him the belief that he can be like them or even better if he remains consistent.

12- Buy educational discs for him
You can use some computer programs for this purpose, like the “Small Reader” or programs that help with correct reading and memorization by controlling the repetition of verses and more. Some programs are interactive, allowing you to record your child’s recitation and compare it to the correct reading.

13- Encourage him to participate in competitions
(At home, mosque, library, school, city, etc.)
Competition is a natural trait in children, and this instinct can be utilized to encourage Quran memorization. A child might refuse to read and memorize the Quran alone, but he will be motivated if he participates in a competition or something similar, as he will try to outperform his peers and desires to win a prize. Children love tangible rewards in the early stages of life, but later on, they transition from the material to the intangible. The prizes and gifts, which are tangible, encourage the child to memorize the Quran. Initially, the memorization may be motivated by the prize, but over time, the child will be influenced by the Quran’s profound meanings.
These competitions also encourage him to continue and stay consistent. He will hardly stop before starting again, setting a plan for memorization. His interaction with other competitors motivates him, and if he feels lazy or loses determination, he will remember that his competitors will overtake him, which will boost his enthusiasm.

14- Record his voice as he reads the Quran
This recording encourages him to keep going on his path of memorization. Even if he forgets some verses or surahs, hearing his own voice reminds him that he is capable of memorizing them again. Additionally, you can assess his level and track the progress of his reading and recitation.

15- Encourage him to participate in the school radio and other celebrations
Having your child participate in the school radio — especially in Quran recitation — motivates him to strive to be distinguished and creative in this recitation, especially when he hears praise from the teacher and his peers. Parents should maintain communication with the teacher and the person responsible for the school radio to correct any mistakes the child may make. This will help the child feel valued and encourage him to strive for excellence.
