**The Text of the Qur’anic Admonition**
God the Exalted says:
“Allah is the One who raised the heavens without pillars that you can see, then established Himself over the Throne, and subjected the sun and the moon—each running for an appointed term. He governs all affairs and explains the signs in detail so that you may be certain of meeting your Lord.” (Qur’an 13:2)
**Meeting God**
There is no perfection for the human being greater or more exalted than meeting God, the Glorious and Exalted. It is among the highest ranks of human dignity. There is no greater happiness for the believer than drawing near to God, the Possessor of absolute perfection, unlimited power, and absolute knowledge. Nor is there any greater peace than the certainty that a person will inevitably return to a loving and merciful Lord.
God, the Almighty, has given glad tidings to the believers of meeting Him:
“Fear Allah and know that you will meet Him, and give good news to the believers.” (Qur’an 2:223)
He has promised those who hope to meet Him that what they await will surely come:
“Whoever hopes for the meeting with Allah—then indeed the appointed time of Allah is surely coming, and He is the All‑Hearing, the All‑Knowing.” (Qur’an 29:5)
He describes those who deny meeting Him as losers and not rightly guided:
“Those who deny the meeting with Allah have certainly lost, and they were not guided.” (Qur’an 10:45)
And those who disbelieve in His signs and in meeting Him are, in reality, despairing of God’s mercy, and for them is a painful punishment:
“As for those who disbelieve in the signs of Allah and in meeting Him, they have despaired of My mercy, and for them is a painful punishment.” (Qur’an 29:23)
He will leave those who do not hope for meeting Him to themselves, wandering blindly in their transgression:
“So We leave those who do not hope for meeting Us to wander blindly in their rebellion.” (Qur’an 10:11)
As for the people of faith and humility, they are certain of meeting their Lord and that to Him they will return:
“Seek help through patience and prayer; indeed it is difficult except for the humble—those who are certain that they will meet their Lord and that to Him they will return.” (Qur’an 2:45–46)
Indeed, their hearts are both reverent and joyful at the thought of returning to Him:
“And those who give what they give while their hearts are full of awe because they will return to their Lord.” (Qur’an 23:60)
For they are certain that God did not create them in vain:
“Did you think that We created you without purpose and that you would not be returned to Us?” (Qur’an 23:115)
Rather, they know with certainty that He has fashioned them for Himself:
“And I have chosen you for Myself.” (Qur’an 20:41)
Thus the souls of the believers find tranquility in returning to their Lord:
“Indeed, to your Lord is the final return.” (Qur’an 96:8)
Content to enter among His righteous servants and to be welcomed into the Paradise of His presence:
“O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, pleased and pleasing. Enter among My servants, and enter My Paradise.” (Qur’an 89:27–30)
