**In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful**
All praise is due to God, the Lord of the worlds. May God’s blessings be upon our master Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, and upon his pure family and his chosen companions.
Islam is not merely a system of belief and faith held in the heart; rather, it is a comprehensive way of human and social life in which belief and faith are embodied in practical conduct across all aspects of life and its individual and social requirements. This is based on the principle of mutual counsel, benevolence, sacrifice, and altruism. God the Exalted says:
“And cooperate in righteousness and piety.”
This obliges people to many duties toward one another as individuals and toward society as a collective entity that embraces all. Among the most important of these duties is the constant effort to protect society from all afflictions and to safeguard it from corruption and harm by removing their causes and creating a sound environment capable of nurturing the proper upbringing of its members.
This is what we find in the Noble Qur’an. God the Exalted says:
“Indeed, Allah commands justice, excellence, and giving to relatives, and He forbids immorality, wrongdoing, and transgression. He admonishes you so that you may take heed.”
Adhering to this divine command protects a person from negligence in fulfilling his duties and in observing the rights of society—foremost among them safeguarding it from harm. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, urged every Muslim to be responsible within his social environment by showing concern for the affairs of Muslims and sharing in their hopes and their hardships. It is reported from the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him and his family:
“Whoever wakes up without concern for the affairs of the Muslims is not one of them.”
This is because social solidarity is part of a Muslim’s faith and religious commitment. It is a moral system built upon love, altruism, an awakened conscience, and awareness of God, the Almighty. It is not limited to preserving people’s material rights but also includes their moral and spiritual rights. Its aim is to harmonize the interests of society with the interests of the individual.
On the basis of these principles, the Noon Center for Authorship and Translation continues to prepare and publish a series of cultural lessons rich with educational, ethical, and social concepts, with the aim of presenting authentic culture in the upbringing of the individual and the building of society.
