And in it also, with the aforementioned chain of transmission, it is said: Ali (peace be upon him) said: “Good character is the best companion.” [8]
And in it also, from Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), it is said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) was asked, “What is the thing that leads most to Paradise?” He replied, “God-consciousness (Taqwa) and good character.” [9]
And in it also, with the chain of transmission, it is said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: “The closest of you to me in station on the Day of Resurrection is the one among you with the best character and who is best to his family.” [10]
And in it also, with the aforementioned chain of transmission, it is said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: “The best of people in faith are those with the best character and those who are most gentle with their families, and I am the most gentle of you toward my family.” [11]
In Amali al-Tusi, with his chain of transmission from ‘Abd al-‘Azim al-Hasani, from Muhammad ibn ‘Ali al-Ridha, from his forefathers (peace be upon them), he said: The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) said: “You will never be able to accommodate people with your wealth, so accommodate them with a cheerful face and a good meeting; for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) saying: ‘You will never be able to accommodate people with your wealth, so accommodate them with your character.’” [12]

4. The Recommendation of Smiling at the Believer
In al-Wasa’il, from the book al-Ikhwan, with its chain of transmission from al-Ridha (peace be upon him), he said: “Whoever goes out for a need and wipes his face with rosewater will not have his face overcome by darkness or humiliation. And whoever drinks from the remains (leftover) of his believing brother seeking humility by it, Allah will certainly admit him into Paradise. And whoever smiles in the face of his believing brother, Allah will write a good deed for him, and whoever Allah writes a good deed for, He will not punish.” [13]
5. The Recommendation of Pardoning Brothers
Al-Kulayni narrated from al-‘Uddah, from Ahmad ibn Abi ‘Abdallah, from Ibn Faddal, who said: I heard Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him) say: “Two groups have never met [in conflict] but that the one with the greater capacity for pardon was granted victory.” [14]
6. The Recommendation of Pardoning Those Who Have Oppressed You
Al-Tusi narrated in al-Amali, with his chain of transmission from Muhammad ibn ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn ibn Zayd ibn ‘Ali, from Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha, from his forefathers (peace be upon them), he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: “You must uphold noble character, for my Lord sent me for it. Indeed, noble character consists of a man pardoning those who have oppressed him, giving to those who have deprived him, connecting with those who have severed ties with him, and visiting those who do not visit him.” [15]
