Leader of the Revolution: The “Sacred Defense” Was an Honorable Test of the Iranian People in Courage, Faith, and Steadfastness
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khamenei, in a message to the National Conference of the “Unknown Captive Martyrs” in holy Mashhad, described these martyrs as a reflection of the مظلومية (oppression and suffering) and estrangement of the Iranian people, alongside their courage, faith, and perseverance during the period of the “Sacred Defense.” He emphasized that holding such commemorations is, in fact, a magnification of steadfastness.
According to Mehr News Agency, the text of the message of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, which was read tonight at the conference in the shrine of Imam رضا (peace be upon him) by the Representative of the Supreme Leader in the Martyrs Foundation, Hujjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Mousavi Moghadam, is as follows:
In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
The “Sacred Defense,” which lasted eight years in the 1980s, was, on the one hand, an honorable test for the Iranian people in courage, faith, steadfastness, and military innovation; and on the other hand, it was a scene of مظلومية, estrangement, and the تحمل (endurance) of spiritual and physical suffering.
The writings of the freed prisoners about their captivity and the violence and inhumanity they witnessed express one aspect of this second dimension, and undoubtedly recount only a small part of it.
The discussion now concerns those who returned their souls to their Creator and drank the cup of martyrdom in that exhausting estrangement. The number of those identified so far exceeds two thousand. One can be assured that they endured suffering until the last moments of their lives, yet they did not submit to the expectations and impositions of the wicked jailers and bore torture. Peace be upon them.
This commemoration is a tribute to their steadfastness. The organizers of this gathering have rightly recognized the importance of the subject and acted sincerely.
We ask God to grant them and all those who serve the resistance His reward and abundant recompense.
