Muqtada Sadr: I am ready to form the ‘Peace Brigades” to protect the holy cites

Translation of Sayd Muqtada Al-Sadr’s latest statement following the events of Mosul

In the name of Allah
After all these policies that have come from here and there, and after the (Sunnis) of Iraq have fallen between the jaws of terrorism and extremism from one side, and irresponsible militias from the other. And after the fire of sectarianism has been flamed between them and the (Shias) of Iraq and has spread in an ugly fashion.

Amongst all of this, all the dark forces were preparing to attack the remnants and the victims of the wrong, the sectarian, and the blind decisions. So here are these external groups who have started occupying parts of our beloved Iraq, which are now under their control, and as they have neither mercy in their hearts nor respect for religion, they have started terrorising civilians with their bombs and beheadings, amongst the silence and awe, of what remains, of this government.

And after this government has wasted all opportunities to prove its fatherly role, as we see Iraq bleeds more and more, and in view of our previous experience and our fulfilment of our role then, whether through our resistance to the occupation or defending the attacks of terrorists on shrines, mosques and churches, and given the negative responses we got from that stance, even from those who were close to us, let alone others… and as we aim to protect the unity of Iraq, and its mosaic, I do not want to push the people of Iraq into a war that some have led us into it with deviant policies.

But I can’t stand watching, doing nothing and being silent, given the expected danger threatening our holy places, and I mean: shrines, mosques, husainyas, churches and all places of worship.

Hence I and with me the sincere ones who are firm with me, those who were not deceived by this life, with the salaries and cars, those who did not believe the propaganda against the truth and its leaders, those who if we are silent they would be silent and if we spoke they would obey us,

We are ready to liaise with some governmental forces to form:

(Peace Brigades) to defend the holy places mentioned above, on the conditions that their participation in security forces is temporary and with centralisation through us, not randomly, given the many challenges.

I, by Allah, am not willing, neither before my Lord and nor before my beloved people, to fight a dirty militia war that does not discriminate between terrorists, those afraid of them, and those who want to be free from them.

And neither am I prepared to be amongst those who strive to remain on the chair, nor to enter into a sectarian war that burns the green and the dry, only to have those with simple minds to come after it and rule the people of Iraq, just like last time.

So for those who follow us in righteousness: do well, remain prepared for orders and instructions, and do not defame our name, as this would be a grave sin.

Everyone knows that if we had interfered then neither the fate of Samarra, Mousl, Salahudin, Anbar nor a single foot of Iraq would have got to where it is today.

Even though we have been oppressed by the destructor (Saddam), hurt with the fire of occupation and the bombs of terrorists, but our response will not be without organisation- that it would target the innocent before the guilty.
Our noble values and ethics prohibit us from such things.

I pray to Allah, by the Prophet and his family, to protect Iraq and unite its factions for the sake of the truth and its people, and to protect it from the monster of sectarianism

  1. These ppl of iraq r the same as it were at the time of Imam Ali(as) n Imam Hussain(as) COWARDS
    &
Y cant iran come to help?

  2. I agree with the comment just stated about cowards. Acts like these take overs are just the ammunition people need to prove the western involvement wasn’t necessary. Iraq’s people need to stand up. I am not front Iraq, nor do I know if I would stand up or how. It is my firm belief the Iraqi government has the job to protect the people.. They are doing a terrible job doing it. I feel as if that country will forever be backwards because the people never seem to come united.
