**Qur’anic Sciences: Lectures delivered by Hujjat al‑Islam Sayyid Muhammad Baqir al‑Hakim at the College of Usul al‑Din in Baghdad**

**(A)**
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

“Indeed, this Qur’an guides to that which is most upright and gives glad tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward.”
(Al‑Baqarah / 9)

“And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our servant, then produce a surah like it and call your witnesses besides Allah, if you are truthful. But if you do not—and you will never be able to—then fear the Fire whose fuel is people and stones, prepared for the disbelievers. And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with a fruit therefrom as provision, they will say: ‘This is what we were provided with before,’ and it will be given to them in resemblance. And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein forever.”
(Al‑Baqarah / 23–25)

**(B)**
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the Seal of the Prophets and the Master of the Messengers, Muhammad, and upon his pure family.

The College of Usul al‑Din in Baghdad had presented the curriculum of Qur’anic Sciences to His Eminence Grand Ayatollah, the martyr al‑Sadr (may Allah’s pleasure be upon him), asking him to write its topics and then have them delivered to the students by the lecturer in Qur’anic Sciences at the college, Hujjat al‑Islam Sayyid Muhammad Baqir al‑Hakim. His Eminence (may his sanctified soul be blessed) wrote part of it, and Sayyid al‑Hakim completed the composition of the remainder. The college’s journal, *Risalat al‑Islam*, used to publish these studies in its issues.

Since we saw the necessity of teaching these studies during the first four years of the Hawza (seminary) studies, we printed these researches by offset from *Risalat al‑Islam* and have published them as follows,

hoping that the respected professors will provide us with their valuable observations so that we may benefit from them in future editions, God willing.
