**“Your words are light.”**
**[The Reward of Saying: Subḥān Allāh, Al‑ḥamdu lillāh, Lā ilāha illā Allāh, Allāhu Akbar]**
Muḥammad ibn al‑Ḥusayn narrated to me, saying: Saʿd ibn ʿAbdullāh narrated to me from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad, from al‑Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī ibn Faḍḍāl, from Abū Dāwūd al‑Mustaḍraq, from Thaʿlabah ibn Maymūn, from Yūnus ibn Yaʿqūb, from Abū ʿAbdullāh (peace be upon him), who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) turned to his companions and said:
“Take shields for yourselves.”
They said: “O Messenger of Allah, from an enemy that has approached us?”
He said: “No, rather from the Fire. Say: *Subḥān Allāh (Glory be to Allah), Al‑ḥamdu lillāh (Praise be to Allah), Lā ilāha illā Allāh (There is no god but Allah), Allāhu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest).*”
My father, may Allah have mercy on him, said: ʿAbdullāh ibn Jaʿfar al‑Ḥimyarī narrated to me from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad, from Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl ibn Bazīʿ, from Manṣūr ibn Yūnus, from Abū Baṣīr, from Abū ʿAbdullāh (peace be upon him), who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
“Increase in saying *Subḥān Allāh, Al‑ḥamdu lillāh, Lā ilāha illā Allāh, Allāhu Akbar*, for they will come on the Day of Resurrection having those that go before them, those behind them, and those that follow them, and they are the enduring righteous deeds.”
Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Mājelawayh narrated to me from his uncle Muḥammad ibn Abī al‑Qāsim, from Aḥmad ibn Abī ʿAbdullāh, who said:
My father narrated to us from Muḥammad ibn Sinān, from Abū al‑Jārūd, from Abū Jaʿfar (peace be upon him), who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
“Whoever says *Subḥān Allāh*, Allah plants for him a tree in Paradise.
Whoever says *Al‑ḥamdu lillāh*, Allah plants for him a tree in Paradise.
Whoever says *Lā ilāha illā Allāh*, Allah plants for him a tree in Paradise.
Whoever says *Allāhu Akbar*, Allah plants for him a tree in Paradise.”
A man from Quraysh said:
“O Messenger of Allah, then our trees in Paradise will be many.”
He said:
“Yes, but beware lest you send fires upon them and burn them. For Allah the Exalted says:
‘O you who believe, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and do not invalidate your deeds.’”
With the same chain of narration, from Aḥmad, from his father and Muḥammad ibn ʿĪsā, from Ṣafwān ibn Yaḥyā, from Abū Ayyūb al‑Khazzāz, from Abū Baṣīr, from Abū ʿAbdullāh (peace be upon him), who said:
One day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to his companions:
“Tell me, if you gathered all the clothes and utensils you have and placed them one upon another, would you think they could reach the sky?”
They said:
“No, O Messenger of Allah.”
He said:
“Shall I guide you to something whose root is in the earth and whose branch is in the sky?”
They said:
“Yes, O Messenger of Allah.”
He said:
“When one of you finishes the obligatory prayer, let him say thirty times:
*Subḥān Allāh, Al‑ḥamdu lillāh, Lā ilāha illā Allāh, Allāhu Akbar.*
Their roots are in the earth and their branches are in the sky. They repel destruction, burning, drowning, falling into a well, being eaten by a wild beast, a bad death, and the affliction that descends from the sky upon a servant on that day. And they are the enduring righteous deeds.”
