Fasting in the Month of Ramadan Is One of the Most Important Deeds on the Path to God

Ayatollah Fadel Lankarani referred to a Prophetic tradition regarding the virtue of fasting in the month of Ramadan, adding that fasting in this blessed month is among the most important deeds in the journey toward God.
A correspondent of Rasa News Agency reported that Ayatollah Mohammad Javad Fadel Lankarani, a member of the Society of Seminary Teachers in the holy city of Qom, referred to the noble Qur’anic verse, “Fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you,” stating that fasting was an obligation upon the People of the Book who followed the divine religions throughout the ages.
The member of the Society of Seminary Teachers also pointed to a Prophetic tradition concerning fasting in the month of Ramadan, in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
“There is no believer who fasts the month of Ramadan seeking reward except that Allah, Blessed and Exalted, grants him seven qualities: the first is that the unlawful melts away from his body; the second is that he draws closer to the mercy of Allah, the Almighty; the third is that the sin of his father Adam is expiated; the fourth is that Allah eases for him the agonies of death; the fifth is safety from hunger and thirst on the Day of Resurrection; the sixth is that Allah, the Almighty, feeds him from the delights of Paradise; and the seventh is that Allah, the Almighty, grants him immunity from the Fire.”
Ayatollah Fadel Lankarani added that fasting in the month of Ramadan is one of the most important deeds in the journey toward Allah, the Almighty, for fulfilling obligations and refraining from prohibitions is the only path to attaining perfection and lofty ranks.
Meanwhile, the office of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei, announced on Sunday that Monday would complete the month of Sha‘ban and that Tuesday would be the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan in Iran.
The office stated in a statement that, due to the non-confirmation of the sighting of the Ramadan crescent, Monday would be considered the completion of the honored month of Sha‘ban.
It added that the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan in Iran would be tomorrow, Tuesday.
Likewise, the office of the supreme religious authority in Najaf al-Ashraf, Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, announced that the sighting of the crescent of the blessed month of Ramadan had not been confirmed, while affirming that Tuesday would be the first day of the holy month.
