Tehran Friday prayer leader: Revenge for the blood of the martyred leader of the revolution is everyone’s demand

The Friday Prayer Imam of Tehran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami, considered avenging the blood of the martyred leader of the revolution a demand for all, stating: “Imam Khamenei (may God be pleased with him) returned to his Lord with a clenched fist. This is a message of resistance, steadfastness, and tireless perseverance, and we (the people of Iran) will reduce America to a pitiable state.”
During his Friday sermon at the University of Tehran, Ayatollah Khatami pointed to the honor and veneration shown to the martyred Imam and his martyred family members, saying: “It is not just our country, but the entire Islamic world that is preparing for a majestic funeral for the martyred Leader of the Revolution, and this funeral carries at least seven messages.”
He referred to the message of gratitude and appreciation from the people for the Leader’s sacrifices, adding: “Imam Khamenei stood firm from 1963 (the beginning of the revolution of Imam Khomeini, may God have mercy on him) until the moment of his martyrdom, enduring suffering, imprisonment, exile, and many hardships with sincerity and love. He assumed the leadership of this nation for 37 years and perfected the foundations of this system.”
Ayatollah Khatami stated that the second message of the farewell and funeral ceremony for the pure body of the martyred leader is “revenge by the Islamic world.” He said: “The Islamic world has lost a great leader, and they have killed their great man; this is not a trivial matter. They killed our oppressed Imam while he was fasting, and they killed his 16-month-old granddaughter and his family. Avenging the blood of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution is everyone’s demand.”
The Friday Prayer Imam considered the people’s participation in these ceremonies a message of loyalty to the Islamic system, adding: “The Islamic system is a trust from the Prophets, the Imam, and the martyrs, and this trust has been entrusted to you today, O people. You are faithful to your covenant.”
Ayatollah Khatami pointed to the steadfastness of the Iranian people, saying: “The people are participating in the farewell and funeral ceremonies to honor a great man who, in the last moments of his life, held his fist clenched upon meeting his Lord. This is a message of steadfastness; the people’s participation in these ceremonies is, in truth, a message of resistance and perseverance, and the Iranian people will reduce America and Israel to a pitiable state.”
He emphasized that 47 years of the people’s steadfastness is the secret to the survival of the Islamic system, stressing: “The Islamic system will inevitably remain steadfast, and of course, if we continue the path of resistance, the malice and deceit of the enemies will not harm us in the least.”
He continued: “The fifth message is a message of allegiance to the successor of the *Vali-ye Faqih* (Guardian Jurist); to the righteous man who continues the path of the Imam and the Leader of the Revolution with strength and steadfastness. This presence and great gathering is an oath of allegiance to the third *Vali-ye Faqih* since the revolution.”
**The Vali-ye Faqih is the Religious Authority**
The Friday Prayer Imam clarified that the slogan “Labbayk Ya Sayyid Mojtaba” (At your service, O Sayyid Mojtaba) is, in reality, “Labbayk Ya Imam” (At your service, O Imam) and “Labbayk Ya Din” (At your service, O Religion). He said: “The *Vali-ye Faqih* is the religious authority. The opinion of the *Vali-ye Faqih* is not merely a personal opinion; rather, it is a statement expressed based on expertise, study, and investigation. Now is the time for obedience, and everyone must say ‘We hear and we obey.’ All officials of the system know that their legitimacy is tied to the *Wilayah* (Guardianship), and they must be obedient to it. The *Vali-ye Faqih* is the authority of the Imam of the Time (may God hasten his reappearance) over the people, and the Imam of the Time is the authority of God.”
He asserted: “The sixth message is a message of insight (*Basirah*). Insight means knowing the enemy. The enemy has targeted the system since the ninth day of Ramadan, and the way to confront it is to be present in the field and fill the streets. You have not left the field for more than four months, and you will not leave it until the result is achieved.”
Ayatollah Khatami said: “Your presence in itself is a sign of insight; the same insight that our martyred leader emphasized repeatedly. Those who carry the banner of religion must possess insight, patience, and knowledge of the positions of truth.”
**The Slogan “Death to America” Stems from Faith and Belief**
The Friday Prayer Imam stated: “The seventh message is a message of disavowal (*Bara’ah*) from the criminal America and the Zionist entity. The same disavowal that the late Imam Khomeini and our martyred leader emphasized throughout their lives, and which the current Leader of the Revolution follows. The hatred for America and the Zionist entity ripples in the depths of all of you, and the slogan ‘Death to America’ is not just an ordinary slogan for you; rather, it is a slogan that stems from faith and belief.”
The Friday Prayer Imam also pointed to the crime of shooting down the Iranian civilian aircraft by an American ship in the Persian Gulf in 1988, saying: “In the incident of shooting down this plane over the Persian Gulf and the martyrdom of its 298 passengers, the Americans themselves admitted that the ship’s commander knew (it was a passenger plane), yet these criminals awarded that commander a medal of courage. So, Death to America, Death to America, Death to America.”
Khatami pointed to other events this month, such as the anniversary of the freezing of Iranian assets by American order in 1980 and the discovery of the American coup plot at the Shahid Nojeh Air Base in Hamedan, known as the failed Nojeh coup. “This means America is evil by nature, and whenever given the opportunity, it practices evil. This is the secret behind the people’s and officials’ distrust of America. Americans should know that the Iranian people and the officials who speak on behalf of this people do not trust America in the slightest.”
**We Negotiate, but We Do Not Trust You At All**
He stressed: “Officials have said repeatedly and will say it again: We negotiate, but we never trust you. They attacked Iran three times in the midst of negotiations. Our people’s hatred for America is a holy hatred and an exemplification of the Quranic verse: ‘Harsh against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves.’ They are merciful among themselves, but they never trust America and the Zionist entity.”
The Friday Prayer Imam added: “The finger of the armed forces is on the trigger; if the enemy attacks, they will receive a harsh response.”
