Ayatollah Saafi Gulpaygani, spoke to a gathering of officials from the Martyrs and Veterans Affairs Foundation regarding the importance of remembering and serving the martyrs who have sacrificed everything they had so that the religion could be preserved.
Introducing the sacrifices of the martyrs and the war veterans, his eminence stated: “In the length of the 8 years of the Holy Defence, the martyrs sacrificed their lives for the protection of Islam and its values and the war injured gifted their limbs for this great path and they have a great reward in the eyes of God.”
“The martyrs and the war veterans are a source of pride for Islam and they have the path of prosperity in front of them. They have protected this religion and its actualities.”
Ayatollah Saafi emphasised the importance of understanding our responsibilities in relation to the honourable martyrs. He stressed: “The remembrance and the path of the martyrs needs to stay alive in the society and the memory of the martyrs needs to be protected for those who come in the future by those who serve the martyrs, so that the culture of self-sacrifice and martyrdom stays alive in the society.”
Regarding the role and duty of women in a society that remembers the martyrs through their actions, the Ayatollah advised: “The propagation and promotion of hijab and modesty in the Islamic society, a point that the martyrs heavily emphasised as well, is a responsibility which should be attended to by the women of the society and we must be capable of becoming a role model for all the Islamic countries.”
Ayatollah Saafi Gulpaygani finished by expressing solidarity with the Martyrs and Veterans Affairs Foundation. He concluded: “I would have liked to have served these respected families of the martyrs alongside you so I could have also benefitted from the rewards and blessings.”
