According to al-Sumaria News website, the lawmakers voted to accept the premier’s resignation.
Speaking after the vote, Parliament Speaker Salim Abdullah al-Jabouri said he would ask President Barham Saleh to appoint a new prime minister.
Abdul-Mahdi’s resignation came after top Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani urged the parliament to reconsider its options regarding the future of Iraq.
The Arab country has witnessed violent protests since October.
